Connecting basement to retail for the first time at Altona Gate.

The lift replacement and basement upgrade works at Altona Gate Shopping Centre in Victoria were successfully completed and formally handed over to our client, Vicinity Centres, marking a key milestone in the centre’s ongoing CAPEX improvement program.

The project comprised the installation of three new passenger lifts, carefully integrated to connect the main retail trading levels directly with the basement car park. This upgrade introduces, for the first time in the centre’s history, seamless vertical connectivity between these areas, significantly improving convenience for customers navigating between parking and retail spaces.

Delivered within a fully operational, live retail environment, the works required detailed planning, staging, and coordination to ensure minimal disruption to daily trading activities. Particular care was taken to maintain safe, legible, and continuous access for both tenants and customers at all times, including during peak trading periods.

Construction activities were carefully sequenced and managed to mitigate noise, congestion, and safety risks, ensuring the centre remained fully functional throughout the duration of the works.
